Junior Salazar joined the NYIT Athletic Department as the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations, effective January 17, 2017.
In his new role, Salazar's will oversee the facility rentals, event management, operations, and scheduling for all of NYIT's athletic facilities in Old Westbury.
"I am delighted to join the NYIT Athletic department. Although anxious to work with the student-athletes, staff, and administrators, I am very intrigued with the vision of Athletic Director Duane Bailey and his team," said Salazar. "I believe my experience in facilities & operations will complement the goals set at NYIT Athletics".
Prior to joining the staff at NYIT, Salazar spent the past 6 years in the St. John's University Athletic Department. There he was responsible for the setup, coordination and breakdown of Division I events which included the supervision of sometimes 40 event staff members in order to provide a good customer experience to their 5,000+ fans. In addition to planning for NCAA tournament games, Salazar was also in charge of negotiating bids with external vendors for facility improvements and projects.
While pursuing his undergraduate and graduate degrees with the Red Storm, the Astoria, New York native also interned with the New York Jets and Major League Baseball in the Office of the Commissioner. He received his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management in May 2015 and will finish his Master's of Business Administration in Executive Management in the near future. He currently works at The Baseball Center NYC as a private instructor and coach while also conducting standard safety testing on facility equipment to ensure customer safety.
