Men's basketball tripped up at Molloy

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The NYIT men's basketball team nearly clawed back from an early 11-point deficit, but the Bears ultimately suffered an 88-80 loss on Wednesday at Molloy.

Leonard James' lay-in off a feed from Jon Feiler had given the Bears a 77-76 lead with 2:19 to play. However, Molloy scored the next dozen points to hand NYIT its seventh straight defeat.

James finished with 20 points, followed by Feiler with 17, Onyekachi Nzerem with 15 and Walter King with 12.

NYIT (6-18, 4-12 ECC) has two regular-season games remaining – Senior Day on Saturday against Roberts Wesleyan, then a Feb. 25 game at Mercy.

"We played hard," coach Kevin Hamilton said. "But made too many mistakes, had too many turnovers – certainly in the first half. But I was proud of the guys, because we came out and played very, very hard in the second half. It's a game of made shots, missed shots and fouls. But we did a decent job in the second half."
