Santagata drives in five, McCracken and Lanksbury homer twice apiece in softball sweep

PHILADELPHIA — NYIT erupted for 29 hits in 11 innings of play and completed a doubleheader sweep of host Chestnut Hill with identical 9-0 victories on Saturday.

Josephine Santagata went a combined 5-for-8 with five RBIs in the twin bill. Tiffany McCracken went 5-for-7 with four RBIs and four runs scored.

In Game 1, Laura McLaughlin limited Chestnut Hill to two hits in four scoreless innings and combined with Sofia Evangelista on the shutout. The Bears produced a six-run second inning highlighted by Brooke Scherer's two-run homer and capped by Santagata's two-run double.

In Game 2, Santagata had an RBI single and scored on Madison Smith's double as the Bears jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Santagata added an RBI double in the second. McCracken and Kaitlyn Lanksbury each had a pair of homers in the nightcap.

Ashley Russo limited Chestnut Hill to one hit and four walks in 4 2/3 innings. McLaughlin recorded the final four outs of the six-inning game.

The Bears improved to 14-12.
