OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The surging NYIT women's basketball team picked up a weekly honor from the East Coast Conference on Monday as freshman forward Margaret Knollmeyer shared the women's rookie of the week award with LIU Post's Mikaiya Moore. It marked the fourth time this season Knollmeyer has been bestowed the ECC's weekly rookie honor.
Knollmeyer helped the Bears improve to 8-7 in the ECC and roar into the playoff picture with two huge wins last week. She averaged 18.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as NYIT upped its winning streak to three games.
Against Daemen, Knollmeyer poured in 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds. In an overtime victory over UDC, she tallied her 11th double-double of the season, posting 15 points and 11 rebounds. Knollmeyer also added two assists and two blocks on the week.
For the men, graduate student Jon Feiler appeared on the ECC honor roll after averaging 17.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game in an 0-2 week for NYIT. Feiler, Division II's leading rebounder, posted a double-double in each contest. He had 14 points and 15 rebounds against Daemen and 21 points and 11 rebounds against UDC. Feiler also had two blocked shots against Daemen and recorded three assists against UDC.
The Bears return to the court with a doubleheader on Wednesday at Molloy, with the women tipping off at 5 p.m. and the men to follow at 7 p.m.
