FOR MEYERS, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2013) - Junior Celia Respaut (Saint Denis, France) became the first NYIT Bear to advance in the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships and finished third overall. The last two Bears to compete in the tournament both finished fifth in singles action.
Respaut faced a hard-fought second round loss to the eventual Women's DII Singles Champion Valentine Confalonieri of Lynn University, who was seeded second overall. Confalconieri topped Respaut 6-4, 6-1. In the third place match, Respaut won as her opponent, Paola Cigui of Columbus State, retired before the match began.
Respaut and the Bears return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16 when they host the Pioneers of LIU Post at 3 p.m. NYIT then travels to Dowling for a 6 p.m. first serve.
