Respaut Clinches Win for NYIT Against Goldey-Beacom

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2013) - The NYIT women's tennis team brought the Fall 2013 regular-season to a close with an 8-1 victory over Goldey-Beacom in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon. The match was clinched by junior Celia Respaut (Saint Denis, France) at No. 1 singles.

After sweeping doubles play, Gabriela Siembab (Chrzanow, Poland) gave the Bears a 4-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Nina Sengl at fifth singles. Respaut then clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Stephanie Puentes at first singles. 

Goldey-Beacom scored its lone point at third singles where Maria Martinez topped Sara Burinato (Barcelona, Spain) 6-4, 0-6, 1-0(7) in a tiebreaker.

The Bears improved to 12-0 on the season and the Lightning brought the year to a close with a 7-4 record. NYIT continues action later this week at the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament. The Bears won the regular-season and are seeded No. 1. They will face the Lady Pioneers of LIU Post on Friday, Oct. 25 at Queens College in Flushing, N.Y. First serve is to be determined.
