Frusci Named ITA East Region Men's and Women's Coach of the Year

SKILLMAN, N.J. (May 8, 2014) - NYIT men's and women's tennis head coach Chris Frusci was recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as the Men's and Women's Coach of the Year for the East Region. It is Frusci's second coaching honor of the season as he was also named the East Coast Conference Co-Men's Coach of the Year.

Frusci earned his 100th career combined (men and women) win this season as the women's tennis team defeated NCAA Division I opponent Fordham to bring the 2013-2014 regular season to a close. He guided the women to a 24-5 overall record and their second straight ECC Championship with an 8-0 mark and a 5-0 victory over rival Queens (N.Y.).

The Bears' only losses of the season came in the month of March. NYIT is ranked 11th nationally and No. 1 in the East Region. The Bears earned a first round bye in the East Regional and defeated Chestnut Hill 5-0 to advance to their second straight NCAA Round of 16, where the Bears will face the Rattlers of St. Mary's (Texas).

The men's team, under Frusci's tutelage, went 21-5 on the season that includes a 6-0 mark against ECC opponents, to clinch the ECC regular season title.  The Bears won their second straight ECC Championship and earned the program's highest national ranking of No. 19 in the ITA Poll. NYIT defeated conference rival Queens 5-0 and then Chestnut Hill 5-1 in the East Regional to advance to the program's second straight NCAA Round of 16, where the Bears will face the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic.
